Another kind of speed camera?

I saw what looked like a new speed trap arrangement yesterday, in S Yorks.

It was a black box on a tripod, similar in appearance but a bit bigger than one of the old-fashioned glass plate cameras. It was in the central reservation, hidden partly by the street furniture and placed to catch rear number plates.

I only spotted it as I was passing it in the opposite direction, so didn’t have time to check where the users were located, or see any warning signs.
