18 year old motorcyclist becomes youngest RoSPA advanced instructor

In December Sam Davis became the youngest motorcyclist to pass the RoSPA advanced motorcycle test to a gold standard at just the age of 18. Now he has just become the youngest motorcyclist to become a RoSPA advanced instructor.

  • RoSPA misquoted in “speed control” report

Sam Davis is still 18 years old and his Honda CB500 motorcycle is still restricted to 33bhp until the end of May!

Chris Palmer, who co-ordinates the Hampshire branch RoSPA SMART (Southern Motorcycle Advanced Rider Training), says: “This proves advanced riding isn’t all about old farts in hi-viz jackets riding BMW’s and Honda Pan Europeans.

“Sam has encouraged 10 students from Portsmouth University’s Motorcycle Club to join us and train for their RoSPA advanced test!”

At the age of 17, Sam completed his IAM training and shortly after he qualified as an IAM instructor – meaning he could train other motorcyclists up to IAM standards.

Sam believes there are too many riders out there who believe they are perfect motorcyclists because they have been riding for years but “everybody needs advanced training”.
