Further delays to Brunstrom verdict

The Independent Police Complaints Commission’s investigation into chief constable Richard Brunstrom showing pictures of a decapitated motorcyclist is now due to conclude in October. 

The Commission originally set a conclusion date of the end of July, then changed it to September.

In the latest statement, commissioner for Wales Tom Davies today said the report had been written but that there were “legal processes that the IPCC has to go through before the report is finalised”. He said the family of the rider would then be consulted before the outcome was made public. 

“I envisage this taking place during October 2007, subject to arranging a convenient date for the family,” he said.

Richard Brunstrom, chief constable for North Wales, caused outrage when he showed images of 40-year-old Mark Gibney’s fatal crash to journalists to launch a road safety campaign in April without permission from the Gibney family.

An IPCC investigation was launched following MCN reader complaints.
