Refused service at McDonalds

I’ve been refused service on my motorcycle at McDonald’s. I was working late shifts and wanted to pick up a Big Mac on my way home & i was refused service by members of staff. When I went to the drive-thru on my motorcycle they said to me ‘we do not serve motorcyclists’. I offered to park the motorcycle in the car park at my own risk and walk around to the other side of the building to the service desk, and they replied to me by saying ‘we still would not serve you’. I feel shocked, let down and discriminated against by using another mode of transport other than a car.

McDonald’s replied to me by saying: “I understand that you used the drive-thru as the internal facility was closed but were refused service as you were on a motorbike. I am aware that you offered to use the facility on foot and that you were again refused. I would like to clarify that McDonald’s supports the health and environmental benefits of cycling, however it is our practice not to serve cyclists using the drive-thru lane or drive-thru service windows. The drive-thru facility is designed for motor vehicles and, on balance, we are concerned that use by cyclists could compromise their safety. In reaching this view we have consulted with our own Hygiene and Safety Department, the Highway Code, and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). I can appreciate that this is not your desired response and I am sorry if this causes you further disappointment. I offer my apologies again for your inconvenience and disappointment on this occasion. I trust you can fully appreciate the rationale behind this decision and hope that you will not be deterred from future visits to McDonald’s.
