Picture special: Battistini Exile goes back to basics

This custom from UK chopper builder Battistinis is completely at odds with your typical chopper – instead of chrome, wild paint and ludicrous geometry, the Exile is subtle, neatly sized but just as...

Insurance shambles

With reference to the guy who was told he wouldn’t be insured for a charity rally. Last winter my bike was off the road and the MOT expired (mid Feb and wet/miserable). Insurance was due at the same time and I noticed that a current MOT was a requirement. I got in touch and they said I wouldn’t be covered going for an MOT. Hell – even the government lets you off mot and tax when going for an MOT.

NEC preview day shambles

I attended the preview day of the NEC bike show on Friday and wonder what the double ticket price was all about. Apart from it not being packed with people, I cannot see how the £28 ticket price was justified. There were no programmes, no brochures of the bikes on any of the stands, and no special events for preview day. I certainley won’t be going to another one!

Not insured for that, sorry!

Having recently purcahsed a Honda CB1300 and wanting to show it off a bit and familiarise myself with it after using a Yamaha XJR1300 for so long I took the decision to participate in a Christmas charity toy run on behalf of Bradford Gingerbread for single parent families. Nothing complicated in that I thought. How wrong could I have been? Coincidentally, I am also a traffic cop and am therefore...

£20m Gatso refund

Hampshire Police will have to refund up to £20m to 250.000 motorists because a Gatso camera on the A27 at Fareham in Hampshire had incorrect warning signs and therefore the 40mph limit had no backing in law. The judge ruled in Portmouths Magistrates Court that ”All speeding tickets where the signs are wrong must now be dismissed” Even Paul Smith of Safespeed agreed! If there is not a worded ”speed...

Moto Guzzis loss

I have had a fazer 1000 for five years and I fancied a change. I liked the look of the Moto Guzzi Stelvio. I went to the bike show on the 23rd to have a look and there was not a Moto Guzzi to be seen anywhere! I guess somebody forgot to send them an invitation. I walked by the Benelli stand, saw the Tre1130K and was really impressed by the bike and the enthusiasm of the bloke on the stand. I will...

GPS trouble in Spain

I would just like to tell you about an encounter I had with the Spanish Police. In October I was riding my Tiger 955i up through Spain, heading for France enjoying the weather and the great roads, when I got pulled over by the Guard Civil. They had seen that I had a Tomtom GPS fitted to the bike with an intercom lead running from my lid. They then told me that ear pieces of any kind are...

Parking ticket misery

I got a £60 parking ticket for being over time (11 minutes) on a parking bay in Nottingham. I wrote to explain that I was donating blood at the time and had a “slow bleed” followed by a bit of dizziness. My claim was backed up by a letter confirming the facts from National Blood Service. Notts Council said they didn’t accept these were extenuating circumstances. Hope the b****rds don’t get any of...

One too many bikes?

The summer of love! This year I have been an ass to my missus! I started off the year with a ZX6R J1 in feb, I sold it to a mate and got an SP1, but couldn’t afford the 100 mile a day commute so I got a GSXR600 K5 in may and crashed it trying to wheelie in June (she doesn’t know that), it was “diesel.” I repaired it with her savings, sold it and bought a benelli tornado in july. This then broke...
