Brunstrom plays down horror photo scandal

1 of 1

North Wales chief constable Richard Brunstrom has played down his use of photos of a headless biker by suggesting it is not of interest to a wide audience.

In his latest blog on North Wales Police’s website, Brunstrom says: “There is a lot still to be said about what happened, and why, but at present I am not free to do so. I will return to the subject as soon as I am able; in the meantime I stand by every word that has been said on my behalf.” He then goes on: “More interesting to a wider audience perhaps, are the parallels between Wales and Corsica.”
Corsica is where Brunstrom has just spent a three week holiday. The blog is the first since his return.

Brunstrom faces possible dismissal over his use of graphic photos of Mark Gibney’s fatal crash to launch his road safety campaign without permission of the family. Whether he keeps his job will depend on the outcome of an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). An IPCC spokesman said yesterday the investigation should be concluded in “a couple of weeks”.

Get tomorrow’s MCN for details Mark Gibney’s brother Paul’s plans for a protest ride against Brunstrom on June 2.
