Beach booty on offer

The manager of a Devon BMW dealership reckons he has been inundated with calls offering him beach booty bikes dragged from the sea near Branscombe.

When the stricken vessel Napoli shed its load in heavy storms a container carrying 30 brand new unregistered BMWs washed ashore – much to the delight of the scavengers waiting on the beach.

Pete Armstrong, Sales Manager at Ocean BMW in Plymouth said: “We’ve had quite a day of it with people wanting to know how much their new found BMW is worth.

“You can tell they’re not bikers because they can’t even remember the model name and have to check on the tank.”

Armstrong believes some cheeky scavengers have even tried to sell him their finds.

He said: “One bloke wanted to sell me a K1200GT but there’s no way I was going to buy it – it’s such a grey area of law at the moment and I’m sure he’ll be made to give back what he’s found.”

According to Armstrong the bikes were bound for South Africa, however, it’s not known if any customers will face delays on orders placed.

However, the most remarkable bike to wash up on the beach is a brand new BMW G650XChallenge, which is so new it’s not even in the dealers yet.

Armstrong joked: “We should send a van down and have the first G650XChallenge in any UK dealership.”

In MCN tomorrow (24/01/07) we hear the incredible story of a man in possession of a brand new K1200GT he managed to drag off the beach on Sunday night.
