Bikers and buslanes

A leaked report on a three-year trial of letting bikes use London bus lanes has concluded the move is not supported despite positive findings.

The draft report, obtained by MCN, found that bikes in bus lanes on three London routes had not lengthened bus journey times or deterred cyclists.

Collision data was deemed inconclusive. Nevertheless the report, commissioned by Transport for London, the body responsible for the capital’s transport network, concluded: “Opinion is divided but the majority do not support the use of bus lanes by powered two wheelers.”

A spokesman for the TfL said: “That’s an unpublished report which is being reviewed.”
