Although it’s a cold February morning, the sun is shining, we have Rockingham race circuit as our playground, the tarmac is dry and in the pitlane are the 2007 supersport bikes, all assembled together for the first time, anywhere in the world. 

But there are two bikes that stand out in our fivesome – the all-new 599cc Kawasaki ZX-6R and the significantly revised and already highly acclaimed Honda CBR600RR. 

There’s only one question: How will the new bikes fair against MCN’s 2006 Machine of the Year, Yamaha’s R6? 

Apart from the mandatory dyno runs and speed testing, we’re also going to give the bikes a drilling in the real world, on UK roads.
