Police hunt green Rover in biker shooting

Police have released new information to MCN on a green Rover 620 thought to have been involved in the shooting of a biker on the M40 yesterday.

Warwickshire Police said the car may have been heading north on the A46 before turning south onto M40.

The force said the victim had attended the Bulldog Bash at Long Marston Airfield near Stratford.

He was riding with at least two friends in the southbound lane between junctions 12 and 13 near Leamington Spa when a car pulled alongside and a passenger opened fire. An air ambulance was called but the man, in his 30s, died at the scene of “very serious injuries”.

Thousands were delayed for several hours as police closed the road in both directions.
A spokeswoman for Warwickshire Police said: “We were appealing for witnesses and anyone who saw this green Rover car travelling on the M40. We’re now extending that to travelling on the A46 northbound from Stratford towards the M40 early in the afternoon.”

She added: “We think this green car might well have travelled along the A46 towards Longbridge Island, which is the M40 junction, and then onto the M40.”

She said police were investigating whether the killing was carried out by a gang rivals. “It’s definitely a murder investigation,” she said.

She said a post mortem was being carried out this morning and the victim would be formally identified later today.

Three bikers were shot at on the M40 in a similar incident as they left the Bulldog Bash six years ago. A 31-year-old man was treated after being hit in the leg.
Anyone with information on yesterday’s shooting should call Warwickshire Police’s incident room on 01926 415581, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Keeping checking this story and get MCN on August 15 for updates.
