Police investigating the murder of Hells Angel Gerard Tobin have extended the detention of four suspects for further questioning.

Three men were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning after raids on properties in Coventry and Nuneaton. A fourth man from Coventry was arrested later on Wednesday evening. Two Rover cars, a van and a firearm were seized.

Warwickshire Police was granted a warrant of further detention by magistrates yesterday afternoon.

Tobin, 35, was killed by a single bullet to the back of the neck on August 12 while riding between junctions 12 and 13 of the southbound carriageway on the M40. He had earlier attended the Bulldog Bash at Long Marston Airfield near Stratford. A second shot struck his motorcycle, a Haley-Davidson FXSTB Night Train. Police revealed afterwards they were hunting a Rover 600 series from which the shots were thought to have been fired.

Warwickshire Police said in a statement that ‘bladed weapons’ had also been discovered in the search and that items seized were being foresnsically examined.
Assistant chief constable Bill Holland said: “Other properties may be searched as part of the ongoing inquiry.”

Tobin was a Canadian National who had spent the last 10 years in the UK. He lived in south London, where he worked as a mechanic for Warr’s Harley-Davidson.

His mother, Maria, spoke of her loss after flying from Alberta, Canada, to visit her son’s body. She said: “I was kissing and kissing my son as I held his dead body. In a strange way I thought that because I gave him life I could bring him back.

“I know that he’s dead. I know that he’s been murdered but it still seems unreal.
“He was always, always, always special in the way he was with human beings, with nature and with animals. He had a concern about him and a spirit that went before him.”
