Your specials: Bike 8. David Richardson’s Kawasaki Z1000.

David Richardson has taken a crash damaged Kawasaki Z1000 which he bought for £3800, and turned it into the race replica you see here.

He chose the Z1000 for the riding position, but has tweaked everything else, including fitting Maxton race suspension, engine tuning by Hobbsport racing, Akrapovic cans, a Rhencullen body kit, Acumen gear indicator and Renthal bars, plus all the crash-damaged parts including the fuel tank, clutch casing etc.

The work took around eight months to complete, with David stripping all the crash damage. Only the fuel tank could be found secondhand, with the rest of the parts bought new.

The unusual paintscheme makes the most of the changes, copied from a Z1000 racing in a series in France. Painting alone took about six weeks, before the bike was rebuilt. And this summer will be the first time David can enjoy the fuit of his labour…
