Speed record underway

The Top 1 Ack Attack streamliner has begun it’s assault on the motorcycle land speed record with a top speed so far of 249mph.

The team, led by American Mike Akatiff, had to delay their first run by two days due to bad weather, eventually starting on Wednesday March 8. The first day was spent fixing a parachute failure which was traced to a tilt sensor. They need to beat the current record of 322mph by a Harley-powered streamliner.

On Thursday, March 9, they achieved a final run of 249.014mph following problems engaging the correct gears as bike left the start line. The second run of the day raised questions about the condition of the track as there were problems finding traction. As a result, they have knocked back the amount of tuning. They have also switched driver, with John Noonan set to run first on Friday morning, having already ridden the Top 1 Hayabusa to become the fastest sit on bike in Australia.
