Works GP Honda for sale

1 of 1

You could own a world champion Jim Redman’s ex-works GP Honda – although you’ll need to have in excess of around £375,000 to spend.

The bike is being auctioned by Bonhams for the multiple world champion and is a Honda 250cc RC164. The RC164-1 was ridden by Redman for almost the entire 1964 season before he switched to the new six cylinder version for the final two races, finishing second to Phil Read in the championship. He finished first in the Isle of Man TT, and also the Dutch TT at Assen, where he became the first rider to win three GP classes on the same day. Redman also took five second places, with a win and a third place on the ‘six’.

At the end of the season, the RC164 was given to Redman by Mr Takahashi of Honda, and the machine was transported to South Africa until 1998 when Redman was persuaded to bring it to Europe and run it at various revival events. The machine was cosmetically restored around 1999, while the engine has not been run since a full rebuild was completed in 2004. Prospective purchasers can see the bike at the Bonhams-sponsored Mallory TT meeting on June 10-11, 2006, before it goes under the hammer in Stafford on October 22, 2006.
