Your specials No 1: Chris Clark’s Honda NC30

This Honda NC30 was bought for just £1700, and it took just £1000 more to tweak and change it into this lovely one-off.

Modifications included a single-seat conversion kit, replacement fairings, a re-spray, hugger and other bits and pieces.

Chris chose the bike because it was iconic, affordable and perfect for weekend thrashing, but the eight month rebuild project did suffer a major disaster part way through.

"I purchased NC in July 04 for £1700, re-splendent in it’s Repsol paint job. But due to some misfortune (read forgot a fairing fastener) after fitting a replacement lower radiator, I lost half of the fairing to the god of wind only a few weeks later and ended up with a naked bike showing the bits you ain’t supposed to see.

After much deliberating I decided to make the best out of a bad situation and plumped up the cash for a RCV211V tail conversion kit which would marry the design high’s of the NC such as the single sided swing arm with a more modern rear GP style profile.

The kit eventually turned up and the old rear end came off to be replaced with the new tail followed by copious amounts positive ogling from biking friends, before it was even sprayed. Then the next night the local scum paid a visit and the every removable body piece was stolen, including the new tail unit and even the old one so I couldn’t revert it back to stock.

After much screaming, ranting, and waiting for the police to arrive, I managed to trace the parts to someone selling them online. I contacted the Police, and about a month later I had my tail unit back with me. Result.

I quickly got everything off to the spray shop and moved the bike to some safer accommodation. A month later and it was finally finished. I love the handling, the looks from people who have to figure out what it is asking if Honda have brought out a new VFR model, but I love the fact that despite some thieving people’s best attempts to spoil my two wheeled vision, I still managed to get it finished."
