How to avoid SMIDSYs

The driving test must change in ways designed to teach car drivers not to pull out on us at T-junctions, according to a new study by the Motorcycle Action Group.

The classic ‘Sorry Mate I Didn’t See You’ (SMIDSY) accident accounts for two-thirds of all motorcycle accidents, they say.

The study – produced in collaboration with motorcycle trainer Ducan MacKillop – offers avoidance and evasion strategies for riders.

And their spokesman added, “We know that motorcycle trainers are teaching avoidance strategies for real world riding but the preferred option by this Government is to fall into a “Euro Trap” through acceptance of draconian European Driving Licence Directives (see link, right)

“These do not address car driving testing standards nor solve the problem of deaths and serious injuries to riders on British roads.”
