2500 ride diesel protest

The Kill Spills protest ride tripled in size this year with an estimated 2500 bikes turning out on Saturday to bring the message to the Prime Minister that diesel is a danger to bikes.

The ride was arranged on the anniversary of the first protest to remind the Government that very little action has been taken in the last year to tackle the scourge of lorries and vans spilling diesel on our roads.

The ride in was sponsored by the BMF and the group presented a full report on the dangers of diesel to British bikers to Number 10 Downing Street.

Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Minister, Tom Brake, met the crowd at Westminster and promised to table an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons on the dangers of diesel spills.

The ride-in started at the Ace Café on the North Circular then covered the seven miles to the Houses of Parliament taking in Park Lane, Buckingham Palace, The Mall, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and Parliament Square along the way.

As part of the campaign a special award was given to Asda as the company that has done the most to combat diesel spills from its fleet of delivery lorries. An Asda lorry took part in the protest.
