BSB awards live at NEC

The BSB awards have taken place in the MCN race paddock at the NEC show with some surprise awards being handed out alongside the awarding of the championship trophies.

The awards were open to the public for the first time this year, taking place in front of a packed crowd in the race paddock rather than the usual black tie bash, and the whole event was streamed live on the MCN webcam.

Special guest star Marco Melandri came on stage to present the winners of the ACU academy award and the 125GP championship with their trophies.

Bennetts unveiled a surprise award for most improved rider, voted for by fans, and the trophy was given to a surprised Leon Haslam who thought he had only come on stage for a quick interview.

The Bennetts Rider’s rider of the year, voted for by all the riders in the British Superbike championship, was given to championship winner Gregorio Lavilla.

The Steve Hislop memorial trophy for the most improved young rider was awarded for the second year running. This year it was given to Superbike cup winner James Buckingham, who managed to get himself a one off ride on the Rizla Suzuki at Castle Combe.
