Riots close Honda plant

A Honda bike and scooter factory had to be closed down by police in India on Wednesday (July 27) amid tensions between workers and bosses.

The close down followed a day of rioting between workers and local police.

Police moved in after the first shift at the factory and closed production for the remainder of the day.

They also set up road blocks across Gurgaon and Manesar on Thursday in an effort to control the situation, according to local reports. Bosses are adamant production has only been stopped for a day.

The incident provoked comment in the Indian parliament after Japan’s ambassador warned it could have a negative impact on foreign investment.
