Best bargain first bike

Suzuki Bandit 600s are a perennial novice favourite and continue to hold their value but if you’re smart you can find a bargain first bike that offers the big bike experience for a lot less cash.

Drop 100cc and lose two cylinders and you’re staring at a Honda CB500, a bike that offers bike big thrills and even enjoyed a one-make race series.

It arrived a year earlier than the Bandit and there’s plenty available in our bikes for sale and auctions sections with early versions dipping well under the thousand pound mark.

They’re cheap to run, reliable and well made so are ideal cheap big bike material. Just watch out for ex-race versions and dinged learner school bikes.
