London’s Congestion Charge has risen from £5 to £8 – effective from July 4, 2005.

The move offers even greater incentive for car drivers to switch to two wheels.

The previous £5 levy for cars saw a boom in bike use in London. Motorcycles remain exempt from the charge – which has risen 60% rise.

There are discounts for those who pay monthly or who prepay.

The charge has resulted a 30% reduction in traffic in central London.
