Bike thief killed by mob

A man who tried to steal a motorcycle has been hacked to death by an angry mob of villagers.

Around 100 people were involved, armed with knives and axes, according to police in north Cambodia.

The bike thief was killed on Monday, shortly after he stabbed and robbed a motorcycle taxi owner. He was attempting to make his getaway on the bike when the mob surrounded him.

The taxi rider has since died from his wounds.

Authorities in Cambodia recognise there has been a rise in mob justice – the result of a court system which has all-but collapsed.
