Sales of new learner bikes in the 51-125cc category are up 5%, helping year-to-date overall bike sales fractionally up compared to 2004.

The Motor Cycle Industry’s latest figures (to the end of Novermber) show a 1% rise in total registrations.

Take mopeds and scooters out and the rise is even healthier – with November bike sales up 6% compared to November 2004 and year-to-date sales up 2%.

Adventure Sport remains the sector with the highest increase – 31% based on year to date figures. The Naked sector has seen the second biggest growth – 17% year to date.

The MCI’s Craig Carey-Clinch, said, “The market continues to remain at around the same levels as last year. As the year comes to an end it is good to see that a range of sectors have experienced growth and the public are opening their wallets for a diverse range of bikes”

“As the new year approaches now is the time to focus on new markets. Potential fuel price increases and general rising motoring costs, including possible expansion of congestion charging could also see more people taking to two wheels in the new year.”
