MCN's founder dies

Cyril Quantrill, the man who founded MCN, has died in our 50th anniversary year.

He died peacefully at 12.30pm on Friday, July 29. He was 89.

His funeral will be held at Eastbourne Crematorium at 10.45am on Friday, August 5. His family have requested no flowers, but donations can be made to St Michael’s Hospice, Upper Maize Hill, St Leonard’s on Sea, East Sussex, TN38 0LB.

Mr Quantrill was born in Balham, South London in 1916. He bought his first bike in 1932 – a Francis Barnett 197cc Black Hawk.

He started his publishing career on the front desk at Motorcycling magazine, progressing to join the advertising department in 1934. His editorial career saw him working as a sports editor and a freelance before launching the first eight-page issue of Motorcycle News on November 30, 1955.
