The motorcycling world is reeling in disgust at reports that vandals have wrecked a memorial garden to Joey Dunlop, on the eve of this weekends North West 200 races in Northern Ireland.

The BBC is reporting that a granite plaque in the garden in Ballymoney, County Antrim was smashed in the early hours of Thursday, May 13.

Police are appealing for information while politicians are uniting in their condemnation, saying the incident has caused widespread anger in the community.

Dunlop’s mother Mary said: ” I’m just so angry that anyone would do the like of this… They are only scum, anyone who would do the like of that. ”

TT legend Dunlop won on the Isle of Man 26 times. He died while racing in Estonia in 2000.
