Classic run to Brighton on Sunday

1 of 1

The 66th Pioneer Run heads for Brighton on Sunday. The classic bike run starts at 8am from Tattenham Corner, Epsom Downs, Surrey and heads for Brighton via the A217 to Reigate before joining the A23 at Gatwick then heading through Handcross, Cowfield and Henfield before ending at Madeira Drive on Brighton seafront.

Among the riders is 76-year-old Derek Nowell on a 1914 BSA. It will be his 50th Pioneer Run. He started on it in 1952 missing just three years since – once for the Suez petrol crisis, another in 1974 when new road rules caused timing restrictions and more recently, in 2001, when the event was cancelled due to Foot and Mouth. He is aiming to make this his last run.

Wish him luck, the weather isn’t looking ideal.
