Riders do better work

Riding a bike to work improves your productivity, reduces stress and saves time and money, according to new research conducted with the world’s biggest accountancy firm.

Scooter maker Piaggio tracked the lives of five London staff at BDO Stoy Hayward after getting them off public transport and into commuting on the firm’s Liberty scooters.

The firm says: “The participants’ work performance was monitored by their senior line managers throughout the three-month study and all reported an increase in productivity of up to 10%.”

It also gave the riders more free time every day and a financial saving of £1000 a year.

Senior occupational stress consultant Carole Spiers, said: “Travelling by public transport can lead to frustration for many commuters because they do not have control over their journey. Companies could significantly improve the performance of staff if they could be removed from the daily commuter crush, so that they arrive at work on time and stress-free, and in a frame of mind conducive to a productive day in the office.”
