Bank holiday bargains

Within the price range you will be looking at ’98 bikes if you go for either a Yamaha R1 or a Honda Fireblade. A 14,000 mile R1 can be had for £3895 while a 15,500 mile Blade will set you back £3899.

Suzuki was late on to the 1000CC bandwagon with the GSX-R1000 only introduced in 2001 so prices haven’t had time to fall that far yet. If you’ve made up your mind that the GSX-R is the only bike for you then you’ll have to stretch a bit, with a 10,000 mile bike going for £4750.

If standing out from the crowd is the most important thing then this 1990 GSX-R750 is definitely the bike for you. It’s done 19,000 miles but twin stainless steel pipes and very loud paint scheme make this a definite one off. You’ll have top part with the best part of £4000 for the privilege though.

Make the most of the Bank Holiday weekend to hunt down some cracking deals. And the best place to start is our BIKES FOR SALE section.

The latest generation of superbikes may be at the cutting edge of performance but that doesn’t mean ‘more experienced’ models have lost any of their original appeal.

For between £3000 and £4000 you can find a good selection of both 750cc and 1000cc Japanese fours to fire your imagination on both road and track.

If you want your bike to be as new as possible but at a big discount compared to new, used Kawasakis offer hot options. You could pick up this green 2000 ZX-9R, which has done just 2500 miles, for £4000. It’s alarmed and even comes with tank bag and panniers.

Slash £1000 off and you can expect to add as much as 12,000 miles to the bike, like this blue 2000 ZX-9R with 14,000 miles for just £3000.

The ZX-7R holds it’s value a little better but you can still pick up a ’99 model for £3950 with just 5000 miles on it, or a 10,000 miles ’99 bike for £3300.

£3200 could see you pick up a ’98 model Suzuki GSX-R750 with 5000 miles on it and a Corona paint scheme, or if your prepared to go for a higher mileage you could have a 2000 model for £3895.
