Protests at City centre parking

1 of 1

Motorcyclists in Sheffield are angry that proposals for extra car and bicycle parking do not include more spaces for motorbikes.

Parking in Sheffield is so bad for bikes that the local Hein Gericke shop has been forced to arrange free parking at a nearby NCP car park. Now shop partner Craig Phillips leads protests against the plans which include improved access for pedestrians and public transport but nothing for bikes.

Campaigners want dedicated bike parking at reasonable prices. They claim this will cut congestion and encourage urban regeneration, two key objectives outlined in the councils proposals.

” I know the council advise using big car parks, but you can fit four bikes into one car space, so it shouldn’t cost the same. Some of them are quite dodgy to put bikes in too, ” said BMF representative Colin Moss.

To support the campaign, write to Craig Phillips at: Hein Gericke 2-4 Marples Building, Fitzalan Square, Sheffield, SL1 2AZ. Your letters will be forwarded to Sheffield City Council.
