Day of Champions; Thursday July 10

The annual Riders for Health Day of Champions charity event takes place at Donington Park today, July 10.

A big attraction of the day is the unique auction, which includes a Suzuki hospitality package, riding kit used by WSB and GP legend John Kocinski and leathers from World Supersport rider Jurgen van den Goorbergh, 125GP star Lucio Cecchinello and MotoGP contender Marco Melandri

The Suzuki package includes two paddock passes, lunch in Suzuki hospitality, a tour of the pit-box, a tour of the IRTA office and a lap of Donington in the safety car with ex-500cc world champion Franco Uncini.

The Kocinski kit includes the helmet, leathers, gloves and boots worn by 1990 250cc and 1997 World Superbike champion John Kocinski during his time in the Roberts 500cc team. Included is a prototype one-of-a-kind Shoei helmet painted with the famous eagle design.

The day will also include Kenny Roberts Snr in a demonstration kart race against a surprise car star, performances by the M&R stunt team which includes Kevin Carmichael and Jake Semetx, and auctioned rides on a special two-seater Ducati V4 Desmosedici MotoGP bike as Randy Mamola’s pillion.

The Riders for Health Day of Champions takes place on Thursday July 10 at MCN Donington Park. Admission to the Day of Champions is £10 for adults.

And if you can’t make it on the day, you can still bid for new memorabilia before every round of the MotoGP championship. Dorna Sport are running auctions on eBay Italy throughout the year. The current auction is for items for the Assen MotoGP round.

The Donington Park auction starts on July 1 and runs until July 8. Items will include;

A Valentino Rossi helmet worn to celebrate his 250cc title and a bandana from his lap of honour at Phillip Island.

A signed jersey worn by Max Biaggi during the ” Football Pramac Cup ” at the Italian GP.

A signed windscreen from Valentino Rossi’s bike, and dinner for two in Honda Racing hospitality.

Autographed Team Honda Repsol shirt autographed by Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden

Brake disc pads from Poggiali’s 125cc championship winning Gilera framed to form a Gilera logo.
