‘Bomb’ in scare is top box

A clumsy rider caused hours of chaos on a busy A-road yesterday when his top box caused a bomb scare.

The box had fallen from his bike in the Saltash Tunnel on the A38 near Plymouth and prompted dozens of motorists to call the cops and report the suspicious package.

Officers from the bomb squad had the Tunnel cordoned off before using specialist equipment to examine the luggage.

But when they opened the box’s lid, instead of finding high explosive, they discovered a change of clothes and a spare helmet.
