New service wants drivers to text

1 of 1

A new mobile phone service is encouraging motorists to text from their cars.

Roadrave, as it’s known, allows drivers to send messages to each other just by using their numberplate, rather than a phone number.

Users must first register their numberplates and e-mail address on a website. Then, they’re sent a sticker to display in the window of their car to identify them to other users as fellow members of the ” Roadrave Club ” .

Messages are sent anonymously to protect the sender’s and receiver’s privacy.

Roadrave’s Gill Simmonds said: ” Roadrave is all about flirting and having fun, but currently it’s only our car’s horn and flasher lights that we have to communicate with other drivers

” With the popularity of mobile phones and e-mail we knew there was an opportunity to link drivers on the road in this way. ”

Roadrave denies that drivers will be tempted to use their service on the move, saying they urge their subscribers to pull over to the side of the road before using the service.
