Frame fix could cut insurance costs

Carnell-City is claiming a new addition to its Sheffield-based Bike Clinic could reduce the number of bikes which have to be written off. And that could have a big impact on the price we all pay for insurance.

The £14,000 Global Jig, now installed at the clinic, is claimed to be able to repair a bike’s framework better than new!

The frame is the single most expensive part of a bike to buy or repair following damage or an accident.

” The huge buying power that comes from being part of a large PLC means that it can invest in state of the art repair facilities using experience gleaned from Dixon’s 13-strong chain of Dixon Car Clinics, ” said a spokesman. Dixon is Carnell-City’s parent company.

The Global Jig is one of only six in the country and can re-align a bike to tighter tolerances than original production lines. Two of them are used by top race teams.

Any frame repaired at the Dixon Bike Clinic will receive a Certificate of Alignment when work is completed and come with a guarantee.

A quality paint shop will help make the centre a ‘one stop shop’ for motorcycle and scooter repair.

Paul Bennett, General Manager at Dixon Bike Clinic said: ” High insurance is a bone of contention for bikers and we hope that by offering this technology, we can do our part in making it easier for insurers to reduce premiums. ”

Dixon Bike Clinic already has the approval of insurers Norwich Union and of CSG Claims Services Group who do vehicle inspections for NIG (National Insurance & Guarantee), Pearl and Churchill.

Riders are offered a collect and return service through their local Carnell-City branch.
