Is your track bike stolen?

1 of 1

Track days have never been more popular it seems, with more and more people buying dedicated track bikes for exclusive track use. But experts now fear that as many as one in ten stolen bikes is resold as a track bike.

For more details on this story, don’t miss the latest issue of MCN , out June 5.

Dr Ken German, bike crime specialist for the Metropolitan Police, is calling for action from police forces across the country. He voiced his concerns at a recent meeting of the Motor Cycle Theft Action Group, where it was revealed that over 100,000 stolen bikes have yet to be reunited with their rightful owners.

” You only have to take a look around a track day to see where I’m coming from, ” said German. ” Many bikes you’ll see there have had their frame and engine numbers removed and in my eyes there is no legitimate reason for doing that. ”

Do you think track day organisers could or should be doing more to halt the trade in stolen bikes? Have you ever bought a bike, no-questions-asked, for use as a track bike?
