Illegal stunters: Heroes or villains?

1 of 1

In the latest issue of MCN, out Wednesday June 19, we meet up with Britain’s hardcore street racers and stuntmen.

Wheelieing, stoppieing and generally tearing up the Queen’s Tarmac. But are they really the madmen portrayed by the police, comparable to ” hooligans and vandals ” ?

That’s how Warwickshire Constabulary’s major incident officer Inspector John Timmis has described them, as his force prepares to use anti-social orders against inveterate stunters in its county.

The riders themselves see it differently; ” We’re not doing anything wrong. We’ve taken years of practice to get to our level…Unfortunately there are amateurs out there endangering themselves and the crowds.

” If I thought I was risking my life or anybody else’s I wouldn’t do it. ”

What do you think? Do think the police have to act to prevent a tragic accident or is it just another example of the state’s ” Nanny knows best ” interference? What do think of this breed of rider? Are they dragging a carefully cultivated reputation through the mud or do they deserve our respect? Are you worried that riders like these might prompt a clampdown on us all?
