First look at radical FP1 road bike engine

1 of 1

The first pictures of the radical new engine for the FP1 road bike have been released. It marks a big departure from the original race engine, and none of its 380 components are common to its parent design.

The biggest changes are the reversed cylinder head, which puts the intakes at the front and exhausts at the back, and the tilted-back cylinders to create space for the airbox.

The engine will be 899.5cc, and with a high compression ratio of 14:1. It’s expected to put out around 140bhp in road going form.

To learn about the advantages and disadvantages of the new design, you’ll need to read MCN, out July 24.
