Bonneville speed legend Don Vesco passed away yesterday, Monday December 16, from prostate cancer.

Vesco will be remembered as a legend for his land speed records. At the time of his death he held 18 motorcycle and 6 car records, including the fastest time in a motorcycle at 333.117 and the fastest time in a wheel-driven vehicle at 459.021.

The records came in a career which started with his first run at Bonneville Salt Flats in 1955, when he was just 16. 46 years later, in 2001, he set a new International Land Speed Record for wheel driven vehicles at 458.44mph, when he was 62 years old. In 1999 he was inducted into the American Motorcycle Association Hall of Fame.
