Roberts backs Sheene to beat cancer

Barry Sheene’s old rival Kenny Roberts has backed the British star to win his battle against stomach and oesophagus cancer.

Former world champion Roberts spoke to MCN from Brno, where his Proton-backed MotoGP squad is preparing for the Czech Grand Prix on Sunday, August 25.

He said: ” We’re all really shocked. Everyone one here is 100 per cent behind Barry – he’s always been a hard fighter and we’re sure that he can beat this thing, too.

I just hope the doctors have caught the cancer in its early stages. ”
