AA and RAC oppose phone ban

1 of 1

Two of Britain’s leading motoring organisations have come out against the complete ban on mobile phone use behind the wheel currently being considered by the Government.

The AA argues that there are many other dangerous in-car distractions and a ban would be unworkable.

Its policy manager Bert Morris explained to MCN: ” We can’t have a law banning the use of mobiles without one to ban eating, smoking, drinking, applying make-up or shaving for that matter. ”

And the RAC’s Edmund King said: ” The use of phones in cars is obviously dangerous and the police should crack down on it with or without a specific ban.

” But where do you stop? Re-tuning the radio probably causes more accidents than using a mobile. ”
