1993 Fireblade CBR900R

Well I never thought it would happen to me, but it has, I’ve fallen in love. It’s been a whole year of contented togetherness. I can’t get enough of her after market exhaust and her peculiar sized front wheel.

I bought the horny blighter in July 2001 and parted with 3000 of our finest British pounds. Some might say a tad overpriced for an early Blade, especially for an

Import, but the polished frame, Two Brothers exhaust, and the fact it only had 10.500 miles on it’s near virginal oily bits I think makes for good compensation.

People said she would make life uncomfortable and yes for the taller rider things can get a bit compacted in the leg department. But when you’re rolling your brain has a tendancy to forget the first ten minutes it took you to contort yourself into the saddle. Anyway that

might have something to do with the ravages of time and the fact I’m not an olympic gymnast.

A year down the line and I’m still happy with the bike. She’s covered nearly 6000 miles and the most annoying thing has been the vibration. After a couple of hours you

feel like you’ve been holding on to your wife’s favourite love toy, after it’s been plugged into the national grid.

Taking her shopping for boots was not as bad as I first thought. The choice was pretty good only being narrowed by my wallet. The sixteen inch front wheel can under

go a transplant so I’ve been told, without fear of rejection if you use a 96 onwards CBR 600 wheel, perhaps there’s a good surgeon out there who could confirm that.

For the strapped for cash I can’t afford a R1 biker you could do a lot worse, they look as good as Kylie in your bed linen, go like Ben Elton on speed, and can turn the heads of

any demon possesed child. Being a Blade Runners not so bad but then that’s my opinion!
