1990 Honda CBR400RR

1 of 1

I am a girlie who just loves riding bikes. Started life on a C.G. 125 and

thought I was God’s gift to biking. Then my husband made the mistake of

introducing me to sportsbikes. I had died and gone to girlie heaven. The

looks, the sound but most of all the speed!! (I am still talking about bikes,

HONEST.)

Tried a number of different sportsbikes but ended up with a 1990 CBR 600.

Loved the speed and the way it effortlessly reached 100 miles per hour plus,

(of course only ever on a track!!!) One major problem seat height. I am just

4 foot 11 and 1/2 inches (five foot to anyone who matters) Holding the bike

at lights became a major problem. I would wobble from one tip toe to another,

or right foot on brake and major lean to left. ended up with a left thigh

Arnie would have been proud of. I also thought the bike looked so old

fashioned. O.K. not a big factor when choosing a bike but to a girl looks

matter. Finally decided the bike had to go.

What next. Looked at many cruisers and customs. O.K. even I could reach the

floor but a bit hard to see with brown paper bag over helmet. Definitely not

for me! Then there it was in corner of sportsbikes section a small but ugly

looking sportsbike. Could this be the bike of my dreams? Sat on it and

reached floor easily. Sell me this bike and oh yes what is it. It was CBR 400

brought it home and hubby spent hours respraying it in Smoking Joes paint

work. Finally a sportsbike I could touch the floor on and looked the part.

What is it like to ride? BRILLIANT holds the road like its on rails. Corners

wickedly (even with be on board) Being able to get my feet flat and the ultra

light weight gave me loads of confidence. Decide to have it

dyno-jetted,geared down and fitted an end can, (of course it is road legal

officer),to release a bit more speed. Magnificent kept up with all 600s and

some 900s through the bends, but obviously did loose out on top end speed.

Although 130 was often seen. Did long and short distances on the bike and it

never faltered once. Arrived at destination cool, calm relaxed, no aches and

a grin from ear to ear.
