May 4 protest details

Details of the May 4 protest rides have been released, complete with meeting points and times for people travelling from across Britain.

Up to 4000 bikers are expected to join the ride, which is designed to show the strength of feeling aroused by a leaked letter written by Environmental Minister Michael Meacher. In the letter, published on motorcyclenews.com, he asked police chiefs in areas of outstanding natural beauty to use all their powers to dissuade bikers from visiting the areas.

Regular visitors to the motorcyclenews.com News discussion board have witnessed the initial outcry against Meacher evolve into an organised go-slow protest. To find out what’s happening on the News board at the moment, follow the link on the right.

Rideouts from the south west, Wales, the midlands and north all meet at the M25 before picking up London-based riders at Box Hill, High Beach and the Ace Café.

They will then form a go-slow to Westminster to hand over a letter to Meacher or his representative.

South-West

Taunton (Deane M5 services): 7am.

Abergavenny Bus Station: 7.15am.

Severn View: 7.45am.

All three converge to follow this route:

Leigh Delamere (services, M4 Eastbound): 8.35am.

Membury (M4 services): 9.20am.

Reading (M4 services): 10.05am

North Wales and Midlands

Chirk (BP garage on B5070): 6.15am.

Corley (M6 services): 8.15am.

Watford Gap (M1 services): 9.05am.

Toddington (M1 services): 10am.

Scunthorpe

Glanford Park Football Ground: 6.30am.

Trowell (M1 services): 7.55am.

Timed to meet North Wales and Midlands route at Watford Gap.

Peterborough

Wansford (BP garage on A47): 8.25am.

Timed to meet North Wales and Midlands route at Toddington.

All routes will then take an anti-clockwise route around the M25, meeting at BOX HILL (take junction eight) at 11.10 and HIGH BEACH (junction 26) at 1pm before arriving at the Ace Café at 14.15pm.
