GPS links up with your mobile to nab bike thieves

The new Scitrack will dial your mobile phone if someone tampers with your pride and joy, you can then inform the old bill and the crooks can be caught red-handed (provided they react swiftly enough).

This latest version of the Scitrack system has been designed specifically for bike. It uses a global positioning satellite to pinpoint your bike, and gives a real-time display of where it is at any time on your PC, with updates every 15 seconds.

The software includes a full UK map with street names, and you can add a European map for an extra £20.

The firm is offering two systems: the £646 Reporter, which dials your mobile when the bike is moved without your permission, and the £468 Guardian, which simply does the tracking.

” Last year’s system, which was for cars, cost £800, so prices are coming down, ” said Scitrack agent Alan Stoole. ” Our new unit is small enough to put into a bike and won’t drain your battery. ”

The hardware consists of a black box and aerial which is easy to fit under the seat or tail unit. Fitting is about £75.

If your mate borrows your bike, you can not only map his ride and see his speed, but get a printout of where he’s been and his average speed! Thankfully it doesn’t automatically dial the traffic police when it spots an infringement.

You have to pay £10 a month for the phone link.
