Forget fireworks… let’s ban bikes!

A local newspaper which is campaigning to ban fireworks has been asked to switch its focus to fighting for a ban on bikes.

The Nottingham Evening Post printed the following letter from a reader on Tuesday night.

" With regard to your campaign to ban fireworks, while I can understand the distress they must cause people for about six weeks of the year, I think a greater scourge are motorbikes. They roam our streets day and night all year long.

" They’re noisy, smelly and pollute the atmosphere. They scare old people and animals and are totally unnecessary. Like fireworks, people only buy them for fun and anyone with any sense would use either a car, bus, train, or even a pushbike to get around.

" Hundreds of people a year are killed or maimed by them and the emergency services are constantly having to stretch their resources to cope. So let’s start the ball rolling now to ban motorbikes. I hate them. "
