Kawasaki ZZR1400 head bearing issue

Q. I have a 2007 Kawasaki ZZR1400 that has, from new, produced a loud crack from the head race area. During the guarantee period I was always told at each service that there was nothing to worry about as it was probably the brakes or the forks.

Recently though the dealer did a free bike check during a promotional weekend and advised that the head races are suspect. Is there a known problem with this model?

A. As far as we know there have been no problems with the headstock bearings, although your bike has had a recall on frame breakages. But I believe it’s already been checked for this by the dealer.

Get those head bearings replaced and I’d ask for them to be fitted free as you have been complaining about this problem from new.
