Brake disc rivets explained

1 of 1

Q. I recently read your advice column in MCN on floating discs from an Andrew Carroll (MCN, November 25) and was wondering, should the rivets on my discs rotate freely on my Aprilia RS250 because at this moment in time they are solid.

There is no movement in them whatsoever!

According to the factory in Italy the rivets in the brake discs should be solid from new, but may loosen up with use.

As long as the pads are wearing evenly and there’s no pulsing from the lever you’ll be fine.
