Why don't my VFR’s idiot lights work?

Q. The idiot lights on my Honda VFR800 have started playing up.

Sometimes neutral works, and then my digital clock goes on the blink for a couple of days before coming back again.

A. If moisture gets into the instrument cluster it can affect the printed circuit board and corrode some connections.

If, when you strip it down, you can see which ones are at fault clearly, and you are confident with a soldering iron, scraps of  telephone extension lead can bridge the gap.

Otherwise you are looking at £180 plus for a new PCB, or a long hunt of breakers.
