Suspension advice: 2002 Aprilia RSV1000R: Setting the suspension for you
Updated: 21 November 2014
I have just bought a 2002 Aprilia RSV1000R Mille. I have no idea who has fiddled with the suspension in the past or how it’s set up now.
It will be a while before I get on a track to have it tweaked by someone who knows what they’re doing.
I’m a 12-stone, fast but sensible rider and a track fan. Can you give me a good base to start with so I don’t kill myself before the next track day?
I’m pretty sure it’s just compression, rebound and preload adjustable on this make and model.
Ride height at the back too I think. I’ve searched the web but there is so much conflicting information.

Here’s a table we published back in 2003 that gives you some options to work with:

16 stone |
Front preload 10 turns from fully out | 8 turns | 10 turns |
Front compression 13 clicks from fully out | 10 clicks | 13 clicks |
Front rebound 17 clicks from fully out | 17 clicks | 16 clicks |
Rear pre-load 24mm thread wound down | 24mm | 24mm |
Rear compression 8 clicks from fully out | 7 clicks | 8 clicks |
Rear rebound 40 clicks from fully out | 40 clicks | 38 clicks |
