Q. Dear Marc. I have an F800GS but the lights are awful. What can I do to improve them? If I get more powerful lights will they drain the battery?

A. Beyond fitting R1200GS-style rally lights, your best bet is a set of HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights from www.acumen-electronics.co.uk. They claim an HID 35W bulb gives more than double the light of a 60W Halogen bulb. The lights are powered at 80V, so a ‘ballast’ power unit is needed (but is included in the £110 price).
