MCN Fleet: KTM 1290 Super Adventure S goes offroad

While I’ve had a couple of excursions off-road on the KTM Super Adventure S they’ve been short and fairly inconclusive. But I’m glad to say that changed this week with a day in the dirt – make that mud thanks at Rockingham Motor Speedway off-road facility.

With new parts fitted to made the road focussed ‘S’ model a bit more off-road it certainly looked the part as I left the tarmac behind. New spoked wheels were fitted with proven Continental TKC80 tyres for extra grip and I also added a bash plate and bigger footrests.

And the results were impressive and it wasn’t long before I felt confident doing water crossings and sliding the big KTM despite its 232kg weight.

Riding a big adventure bike off-road is a lot about confidence. If the grip is good they are surprisingly capable and with big power on tap throughout the rev range, they are also a hell of a lot of fun.
